I have to be honest, I'm never Super excited to get that invitation to a baby shower in the mail. I surely commonly have a lot more fun than I anticipate having, although I still try to avoid those baby-shower games whenever I can. The exception, of course, is the "baby shower at work". Because of course anything would rather eat cake and gossip and talk about new babies than surely work!
The problem with those work baby showers is that it's tough to throw them, in the consulation room or some set-aside meeting space, and have them look any distinct or more extra than a boring consulation room. Luckily, there's some decorating ideas that are not only cute and stylish, but practical!
One of the best ones is a diaper cake centerpiece. These look like tiered cakes, complete with stuffed animal decorations-but are made of itty-bitty, excellent for new baby, diapers that mom can use! Baby diaper cakes have surely been nearby for a while, but they are getting much cuter and more stylish and you can get them, reasonably priced, with lots of cute add-ons that make them the excellent for the focal point of the party. If you know boy or girl, you can select the "sex" of your diaper cake centerpiece; if it's a surprise, you can get gender neutral versions, still with cute animals or toys as add-ons-try a hunt for "baby shower diaper cakes" and you'll have lots of options.
Another cute décor idea: stringing a clothes line over the back of the consulation room, and having everybody bring baby clothes gifts. You can get colorful clothes pins and pin the outfits over the clothes line-festive, cute, and functional all at once, and everybody likes shopping for baby clothes! If there's no room to string a clothes line, you can use this same understanding by filling a diaper pail with a clothes line with newborn clothes, bibs, etc pinned to it; pulling the line out of the diaper pail (or hamper) is fun when it's loaded with goodies, and this is a good way to make a cute gift presentation in a small space (plus helps mom get all things home easily!)
A final good "work shower" idea is to have everybody bring in popular books for the new baby; this is a fabulous way to help build the baby's library with a diverse option of books mom or dad might never have read and kept as favorites, from childhood. Buying books is fairly economical, so especially if the shower is for a co-worker, may be easier than some other, more personal items (for instance, work colleagues shouldn't be anticipated to contribute breast pumps, dress shields, etc!) Some of my children's popular books came from a little baby girl gift basket I received, stuffed with a option of books for girls specifically, and I'm a firm believer that you can never have Too many books.
